Joyce Alce served as a director of clinical service for nearly four years. She recently moved to the mainland, but she was selected to receive the Makana Pono award before she left.
As a parting gift, she chose our May Makana Pono nonprofit, Olomana School. Joyce’s husband is a teacher at Olomana and Islands Hospice is pleased to make this $5,000 donation to help students thrive.
Olomana School is an intermediate and high school part of Hawaii Department of Education (DOE), that offers alternative education for adjudicated and at-risk youth. Their mission is to produce productive citizens by promoting positive values and strengthening academic success by using project/problem-based learning which is integrated in all content areas and used to engage students, deepen the understanding, and develop collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
The campus at the foothills in Kailua recently hosted a commencement ceremony and celebrated the class of 2021. After a difficult few years full of social isolation and distance learning for students across Hawaii, Islands Hospice is honored to support the Olomana Razorbacks on their path to success!
