This month’s Makana Pono awardee is Cesaria (Cess) T., a certified nursing assistant at our Honolulu office. Cesaria is in her tenth year as an Islands Hospice team member, providing personal care, comfort and housekeeping to patients.
Cesaria has selected Shelter of Wisdom as her $5,000 award recipient. Shelter of Wisdom is a non-profit entity that serves and engages with the most vulnerable and unapproachable homeless individuals. It provides advocacy for each individual and networking with appropriate public service providers to establish permanent and healthy integration into housing and community service. True to its name, Shelter of Wisdom also provides temporary emergency shelter for eligible individuals who are receiving advocacy.
As a supporter of Shelter of Wisdom for the past five years, Cesaria believes in its mission of taking care of people, and hopes this donation will help the organization continue to improve lives. “For most of us working in hospice, it is so much more than a job. It’s a commitment to making an impact on the lives of the patients and families we care for,” explains Cesaria.
That passion to help those in need, outside of her job, doesn’t go unnoticed. Carolina Jesus, Director of Shelter of Wisdom, says, “Cesaria has been the best caregiver ever for one of the men we took off the street years ago. He is very difficult to care for and she has been the best!”
Congratulations, Cesaria! Islands Hospice is grateful for your ten years of service and we sincerely applaud your dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
