A member of CDCC for more than 50 years, Zenaida says she was drawn to the church's strong community service focus and the loving family atmosphere created by its kind, caring, and compassionate members.

Zenaida has been part of the Islands Hospice team for seven years as a registered nurse, providing around the clock care and support for patients at the end of life. As our July Makana Pono awardee, Zenaida has selected the Crusaders of the Divine Church of Christ (CDCC) on Maui as her $5,000 award recipient.

A member of CDCC for more than 50 years, Zenaida says she was drawn to the church's strong community service focus and the loving family atmosphere created by its kind, caring, and compassionate members.

“It amazes me how many churches were now built in the Philippines,” said Zenaida. “Church members not only share their monetary donations but also volunteer themselves to help build churches around the country with no pay.”

In addition to their work in the Philippines, the CDCC on Maui is also involved in several local community projects. Church leaders help to maintain the Bahay Kubo Heritage Garden at Iao Valley and host a food booth at the Maui County Fair every year. They also provide free medical missions to those in need.

Recognizing the importance of the CDCC's work and its impact on the Maui community, Zenaida decided to allocate the $5,000 contribution towards the construction of their church altar.

Beyond her work at Islands Hospice, Zenaida is also actively involved in Hale Makua, a non-profit nursing facility that offers short-term and long-term care to kupuna on Maui.

Congratulations to Zenaida and thank you for your dedication to helping others!
