Supporting Veterans Through Concurrent Care
VA Concurrent Care offers comprehensive hospice-level support for eligible Veterans while allowing continued treatments for their serious or life-limiting illnesses. This program is designed to enhance quality of life through a blend of clinical and supportive services, without requiring a full transition away from curative care.

What is VA Concurrent Care?
This program is similar in structure to traditional hospice care but uniquely allows patients to continue treatments such as surgeries, radiation, or medication management while also receiving compassionate support from the Islands Hospice team. Services focus on relieving symptoms, managing side effects, and addressing emotional, social, and spiritual needs.
Participation in the VA Concurrent Care program requires prior authorization. Eligibility is determined by the Palliative Care Team at the VA Pacific Islands Healthcare System.

Services May Include:
Visits and consultations with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other care team members
Registered nursing care, social work, spiritual counseling, and hospice aides
24/7 support for urgent needs
Access to medications and biologicals for pain and symptom control
Durable medical equipment and supplies
Trained volunteers for additional support
Bereavement counseling for families
